Dragonflies & Damselflies


It's amazing what you can find. Searching for flowers and found this Damselfly.
It's called a Banded Demoiselle - Calopteryx splendens.

Most people, including me at one time, would see one of these and immediately think Dragon fly. So now you need to know the difference between a Dragonfly and a Damselfly.
Note the above Damselfly at rest has it's wings folded against it's body. The dragon fly doesn't fold back it's wings they stay stuck out. Also the damsel fly has a long slender body (as above) and the dragon fly has a shorter stouter stubbier body. Generally speaking.
These little beauties are the veloceraptors of the flying insect world. Totally harmless to people but deadly to other small insects.
